I teach music to all of the students at our K-6 elementary school, and I can say that our kids are some of the most amazing kids around. They are the future leaders in their community and are showing that they know how to be kind and respectful to others and work hard. Even though approximately 70% of the students are on free or reduced lunch, they have never let that stop them from reaching for their dreams.
Students at our school are inquisitive, creative and talented, and need to be able to express themselves in many different ways, including music.
In my class, students explore the world around them through music. They learn about other cultures, explore the past, and learn about how the arts shape their everyday lives. These students also need to be able to go one step further and create music of their own. In these difficult times, with your help and support, we can provide a safe, hygienic way for students to get back into playing instruments in class.
My Project
So why ukuleles? There are innumerable studies out there that show how magical music is for people’s physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Learning to play a musical instrument, like ukulele, helps students develop coordination and problem-solving skills. Plus, learning to play ukulele is a blast! Its easy to learn, light-weight to carry and the perfect size for elementary students. Even in the first class, students can learn to play real music and start expressing themselves with the music they can create.
With your help, we can continue to offer amazing musical experiences for our students through playing the ukulele.
This year, it is essential to be able to make sure that every student per class is able to have their own instrument, and that those instruments can be properly cleaned and maintained. The ukuleles we would be able to purchase with your support are made out of high quality ABS plastic, and not only would be able to be sanitized properly, but will also be durable enough to give us many, many years of great music.
Without a strong community supporting our kids and their learning, this experience wouldn't be possible. Thank you for all of your help and support!
