About this event

Are Wellbeing and Suffering Compatible?

Wellbeing is commonly defined as "the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy." Our Biblical understanding of wellbeing, however is somewhat different. In a world that includes injustice, suffering and evil, we do not find our contentment in denying the existence or effects of these things. Rather we see that "suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope." (Romans 5:1-11). Join us as we explore the following ideas:

  • Are comfort, health and happiness desirable?
  • What are the dangers in projecting a wrong view of wellbeing?
  • Is suffering inevitable?
  • How do we interpret a suffering world for our young people?
  • How do we lead ourselves and our young people to true wellbeing: joy in Christ?

We look forward to welcoming you as our special guest speaker Brian Cox, brings his experience and expertise in Christian Education to help us gain insight into this topic. This is a seminar not-to-be-missed.

About Our Presenter

Brian Cox

Brian has been an educator for almost fifty years across three continents. He has postgraduate degrees in Educational Leadership and Biblical Studies. He has held a variety of Principal and Leadership positions since 1980, including being the Foundation Principal of Southern Vales Christian College. He then spent six years as a Regional Director of Christian Schools covering three states of Australia.

In 2001, he began a fifteen-year period overseeing the educational development of six Christian International Schools in Indonesia as well as providing encouragement and development for other school leaders and university faculties.

He has been instrumental in setting up Teacher Education programs in Indonesia which now produce more than three hundred four-year graduates annually.

Brian is a frequent conference and seminar presenter in Australia, Indonesia; Canada, New Zealand and other International venues. He served for many years on the editorial Board of the Christian Teachers Journal of Australia.

Brian’s basic premise is that Christians should be constantly proclaiming the pre-eminence of Christ and engaging redemptively in all of life in the light of the Gospel. This means that education is to be viewed, and practiced, holistically.

He also enjoys being part of The Excellence Centre Team enabling him to continue learning through enriching relationships.

Brian has been married to Maureen for forty-eight years. They have four children and five grandchildren.
