The Okotoks Arts Council, Okotoks Public Library, and the Town of Okotoks launched the inaugural Sheep River Artist in Residence in the spring of 2023. The program invited artists of any field to apply for the chance to be the artist in residence in Okotoks, Alberta. The program was developed to support and encourage established or emerging artists, while enriching the community with art.

Following a successful inaugural year, the Sheep River Artist in Residence Program is set to inspire the Okotoks community again for 2024. Scheduled to coincide with Alberta Culture Days and Month of the Artist in Okotoks, this residency program will run for four weeks during September.

The selected artist will be tasked with creating a proposed body of work that they will present to the community. The residency will culminate in a closing reception at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre on September 28, 2024, where the artist will showcase the art created during their stay.
