LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Potholes are damaging cars across the state. Liskey’s Auto and Truck Services owner, Jerry Carpenter, says it is due to the change in weather.

Carpenter said, “We get all of that snow and the ice, and it fills in nasty potholes. You are driving around, and the roads are nice and smooth again. But we get a thaw like we are now, and the potholes start popping out.”

Carpenter said there is something you can do if you know you are about to hit a pothole that could limit the damage your car takes.

“Slow it down, get on the breaks, but right before you hit the pothole, let off the break. Let the car roll through that pothole,” said Carpenter.

Aaron Jenkins with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said crews will look to take advantage of next week’s warm weather to help fill in some of the potholes.

Jenkins said, “Any time we get the chance to get our maintenance forces out there and fill in those potholes, we do it.”
