Converse Consultants is proud to have provided the geotechnical engineering, materials testing and inspection services for the World’s largest groundwater project of this type – the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS). The project consisted of modifying from 70 MGD to a total of 130 MGD Advanced Water Treatment Facility. The expansion required the construction of new structures, two 7.5 MG storage tanks, 54-inch dia. pipeline, UV facility, two new UV trains, a decarbonation tower, a lime saturator, new RO trains, hypochlorite storage tanks, dosing pumps, surge tank, concrete diversion box, AV/AR valves and other modifications and upgrades. Our project team included Dr. Hashmi Quazi, Dr. Siva K. Sivathasan, PhD, PE, GE, DGE,QSD,F. ASCE, Sean Castillo, Manny Liwag, Sri Srikanth, Kathy Laurel, Penney Munns, Aleksey Zhukov, Tony Maciel, and Babak Abbasi; and our contract amount totaled nearly $1.4 million. From OCWD’s press release for the dedication ceremony, “the GWRS now provides up to 130 million gallons of water a day, supporting 2.5 million people and businesses in north and central Orange County. Since its operational inception in January of 2008, the GWRS has produced more than 400 billion gallons of water and counting. This final expansion is an immense collaboration of innovation and foresight between OCWD and the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSAN). Both agencies are grateful to our many partners such as Converse for their dedication to this project.“ Converse also sponsored the GWRS Final Expansion Dedication Ceremony held on April 14th. It was an enormous success, with approximately 350 guests and many federal, state and local elected officials in attendance to mark this final milestone. Converse Consultants is proud to be part of the 91/71 Interchange Project for Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) in Corona, CA. We are providing the geotechnical engineering, materials testing and special inspection services for the project with a budget totaling close to $700,000 for the $137 million construction project. Our project team is led by Hashmi Quazi as Project Director and Antonio Maciel as Project Manager. From RCTC: "The 71/91 Interchange serves as a gateway between Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino Counties and is a vital link for commuters and freight vehicles that travel along the 91 and the 71. The new non-tolled interchange is designed to improve safety, expand access to other modes of travel, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance traffic flow.
