Green Exploration
Green Exploration
  • Pack-in, pack-out: Whatever you bring with you, take with you. If a trash can is full, pack it, don’t stack it. Overflowing trash cans contaminate our coastal environment and harm wildlife.
  • Respect the wildlife: Keep a safe distance from all wildlife and, as cute as they are, never feed a wild animal including sea life and birds.
  • Travel green: Carry a reusable water bottle & shopping tote, recycle what you can and conserve resource use.
  • Be considerate: Keep your pet leashed, pick up their waste, keep noise to a respectful volume, give others space, and always be kind.
Goat Hill Apiary
Goat Hill Apiary

Nature and recreation co-exist at Oceanside’s Goat Hill Golf Course. This flip-flop friendly local jewel partnered with Greener Golf to install and maintain a native flower Apiary, creating a more
sustainable course that’s now a healthy home for bees. Occasionally honey production is prolific, and the course packages it for public purchase. Keep an eye out for limited edition Goat Hill Honey!

Local Roots
Local Roots

Destination sustainability is as much about socially responsible practices as it is about earth-friendly programs. Oceanside is a diverse community that was originally home to the Luiseño Band of Mission Indians and today is a cultural melting pot with deep roots in Hispanic and Asia Pacific Islander communities. Museum exhibitions, historical sites, and annual events provide opportunities to connect with and appreciate the city’s rich heritage.

As a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ+ community, Oceanside Police Department partners with many local businesses in The Safe Place program, which provides assistance to anyone experiencing a hate crime.

Accessibility
Accessibility

Oceanside welcomes all ages and abilities. In fact, the city is quickly becoming a hub for adaptive action-sports athletes. Annual adaptive events include the US Open Adaptive Surfing
Championships and USA Surfing Championships that features a para-surf division.

As destination stewards of Oceanside, Visit Oceanside is committed to growing tourism in a way that benefits the economy while also nurturing the environment and local community. To ensure that our journey towards responsible tourism is on the right track, we’ve teamed up with the City of Oceanside to craft a Sustainable Tourism Master Plan. This comprehensive roadmap outlines a 10-year strategy for sustainable growth, focusing on preserving the environment, enhancing the quality of life for residents, boosting the economy, and ensuring visitors have top-notch experiences. We all want to see Oceanside thrive, while staying true to its roots.

We’re currently in the final stretch of the plan, with completion expected by early 2024. The journey has included assessments, stakeholder engagement through surveys and town halls, and deep dives into data and visioning workshops. Currently, the plan is taking shape, laying out the actionable steps that will guide us towards a sustainable and prosperous future.

Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a culture connoisseur, or simply seeking a relaxing getaway, come join us in Oceanside, where every adventure is not just an experience but also a commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
