The City of Glenwood Springs will host a household hazardous waste drop-off event on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 9 a.

m. to 3 p.m., at the Community Center. Glenwood Springs residents can responsibly drop off hazardous waste then celebrate Earth Day with free compost pick-up.

The hazardous waste drop-off will be accepted from private parties only. No commercial hazardous waste will be accepted. Please no containers larger than five (5) gallons, waste oil, or tires. All water-based paints, stains, and clear finishes will be recycled. Electronic (e-waste) will not be accepted at the event but is accepted for a small fee at South Canyon Landfill and the Glenwood Springs Recycle Center.

This service will be free to Glenwood Springs residents. No appointment is needed, but participants must provide driver’s license or ID card upon entry. People living outside the city limits of Glenwood Springs will be charged $2.00 per gallon, liquids or solids as estimated by an attendant – check or cash only. Jonathan R. Lovekin, Geologic Hazards and Emergency Response Programs Manager for the Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) will be presenting about mudflows, also known as debris flows. This webinar will be viewable via Zoom and Facebook Live.

Highlights will include:
- Some impacts to our communities from these naturally occurring events.
- A brief history of mudflows in Glenwood Springs
- Wildfire and potential future impacts from mudflows
Lovekin will also present on who the Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) is, what they do, why we are discussing mudflows and what we are doing about the mudflow problem the Glenwood Springs area.

Missed Recycling Pick-ups Notification (Wednesday, January 31): Due to an equipment issue, some households east of Grand Avenue with Wednesday trash/recycling service will have delayed recycling pick-up.

Please set out missed recycling carts again tomorrow, February 1 for pick up. Households with Thursday pickups should set out trash and recycling as normal. As a reminder, this is an A-week for recycling.

Tree Drop-off.

Through January 14, residents of Glenwood Springs can drop off trees and fallen tree branches for composting at the old rodeo grounds, adjacent to the airport. Before dropping off, remove all decorations, streamers, tinsel, glitter, tree stands and anything else that will not compost. Please do not dump trash or other debris at this site.
The service is free but is only open to residents of Glenwood Springs. The collection site is not available for use by commercial operators. Trees can be dropped off at any time of day with the site open 24 hours a day, seven days a week through January 14.

South Canyon Landfill customers bought over 5,600 tons of our compost and soil blends this year, making an important contribution to soil health and organics recycling in our community. The landfill crew is grateful for your support of local composting.
