Engaging Students on Electrical Utilities Environmental Analysis

Ziegler Capital Management puts a high value on engaging the leaders of tomorrow on topics and challenges facing our industry and communities and transitioning to a sustainable future is one of the most pressing of our day. The ZCM Sustainability team is excited to announce the launch of our recent project with the students of the Energy Analysis and Policy Program (EAP) at UW-Madison (https://eap.wisc.edu/).

The team from the EAP program consisting of M.S, MBA, and PhD students from programs across the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They will work on a semester long project together with ZCM Sustainability to complete an assignment and fulfill their Capstone requirements.

ZCM will be serving as the “client” while the EAP students tackle the following directives:

  • Identify domestic investor-owned electric utilities with low-carbon or carbon neutral commitments,
  • Determine if they have well-documented and credible plan to achieve those commitments.
  • Evaluate those plans for thickness.
  • Score those utilities utilizing ZCM proprietary screens to determine thickness “investability”.
  • Present results in a report

Upon completion, the students will present a “deep dive” of utilities with well-documented, credible, carbon reduction plans.

Stay tuned for project updates!

Thick Sustainable Infrastructure Finance Youtube Channel

Through this ZCM Sustainability sponsored channel, we seek dialogue about how we will manage, and ultimately solve, our common global environmental challenges. Humankind is increasingly living in an environmentally unsustainable manner and, as the consequences of this – like climate change – become more obvious, investors’ money is in motion trying to help. Where should the money and effort go? We believe it should go into funding Thick Sustainable Infrastructure.
